Book your holiday early!

I am currently sat in the office, facing my friend who has just got back from a trip to Turkey, and my god am I jealous. She has come back the most gorgeous golden brown colour and looks completely refreshed, it’s so not fair! I have finally booked off my two weeks for next year and i’m in the process of deciding where it is I want to go. Although I have my heart set on white sands and dazzling sunshine, trying to scrape together the money to pay for it is proving quite difficult.

Money

I always seem to forget that with a luxury holiday comes a hefty price tag and for some people, even getting together the deposit can be hard. I suppose my shopping trips will have to go on hold for a while!

My advice is to book your holiday early. Although you can get some great last minute deals, it normally means you will have to pay the total amount upfront. If you book it in advance then your deposit cost will be small and you can then decide to pay it off monthly or in one lump sum.

The holiday I want for next year only has a £75 deposit per person, just the amount I like, means I can go shopping too!

Have a ’staycation’

In my last post I wrote about how more and more people are deciding to stay in the UK rather than jet set off to the other countries of the world. This kind of holiday has now been labelled a ’staycation’.

Staying at home seems to be the way forward, not only do you save a load of money but you also have your own bed to go back to each night, what can be better than that?!

Many people have been attending festivals recently, so why not air out your tent and go camping. I’m not a massive fan myself to be honest, the thought of being without a proper shower and access to hair straighteners sounds hideous. Also the terrible memories from Brownies involving a tent hook  scars me for life. Camping can be enjoyable though, kicking back with your mates, beer in one hand, toasted marshmallow in the other!

Camping

I would say that one of the best places to erect your tent is in the Lake District near Lake Windermere. With the great views and the sound of water lapping against the shore, you can’t beat it!

If you have decided to dig your tent out of the loft, then happy camping!

Stay in England!

With the economy being in such a mess and many people jobless, many of us are deciding to take our holidays in good old blighty. However, with the weather being wrongly predicted, those that have are finding it to be a bit of a wash out.

Staying in the UK can be just as fun as travelling abroad although most the time, without the good weather. You can fill your days with activities and have the comfort of knowing your not too far from home.

Stately homes, museums, theme parks and zoo’s are a plenty in the UK and your day can be jam packed full with fun for all the family.

Here are just a few ideas of how you can spend your days:

  • Alton Towers theme park
  • Buckingham Palace
  • Chester Zoo
  • Westminster Abbey

Hungary anyone?

Do you feel like you have just been visiting the same places for years? Spain one year, France the next? Staying in the same hotels and eating the same buffet breakfasts each morning? Well why not spread your wings and head to Hungary?

Budapest

Take a trip to central Europe where you will be greeted with mountains, rivers, volcanic pools and vineyards. Although there is a lack of coastline, don’t let this put you off, you wont have time to sit down with all that Hungary offers you.

If you fancy relaxing at an idyllic retreat, why not head to Lake Balaton. If kicking back with a cocktail is what you fancy then vineyards will certainly be your cup of tea, pick some grapes and produce your own bottles of wine. If, like me you want to be pampered whilst you’re away then take a trip to a thermal spa.

If you are planning to visit Hungary for just a couple of days then head to the capital,  Budapest. A city trip with a mixture of traditional and modern Hungary.

Whatever you decide to do, you will not be left disappointed by Hungary.

Marbella

Fancy brushing shoulders with Versace clad, linen trouser wearing footballers wives or spending a day on a millionaires yacht? Well Marbella is the place you need to go. Although Marbella has lots of money, you don’t need to be rolling in it to soak up the atmosphere that is offers.

Marbella

With the hotels in marbella, you pay for what you get and unfortunately most of them come with a pretty hefty price tag. The food and drink is also pretty pricey with a vodka and coke setting you back 12 euros.

If you fancy a night of drinking, dancing and cavorting then head to Puerto Banus. Known as the Spanish St Tropez, Banus is full of the beautiful rich and famous and is a keen hot spot for the likes of Katie Price and Cheryl Cole.

Away from all the hustle and bustle you have the golden sands and scantily clad women downing champagne by the gallon, topping up their tans.

Marbella is great for a weekend away with your mates or a romantic break with the other half, just remember to take lots (and lots) of money!

Fujairah

It’s Monday, the start of a long week in work with pretty much no sunshine and nothing to look forward too! Great! I spent all day yesterday surfing the web for ideas on where to go next year for my holiday. My boyfriend has decided that he would like us to go on 2 holidays, one for 2 weeks and another one for a couple of days to Paris with his niece so she can see Disney Land.

My boyfriend and I are massive fans of relaxing on the beach in the baking sun whilst getting served cocktails, bronzing ourselves before a night out on the tiles. So, we are looking for something hot, luxurious and far, far away!

We came across a place called Fujairah. Fujairah is one of the 7 emirates that makes up the UAE. I know what you’re thinking, not a normal holiday destination, but the hotel we have found looks amazing and ticks all our boxes.

Fujairah

Take a look at it here.

Fujairah itself is full of mountains and we realise that we wouldn’t be able to do much away from the resort, but with the Indian Ocean a stones throw away, who cares!

I’m currently just checking out what the area is like from a friend who lives in Dubai. If i get the go ahead, it looks like I may be booking it soon! Hurrah!

Here is an article from a tourist who has visited the area.

Worried your holiday may end in disaster?

Ever been on holiday and found that everything that could possibly go wrong, goes wrong? You end up at the airport with no passport or eventually get on holiday and found you have forgotten to bring all the money you changed a week before!! Ahhhhhhhh!!

Airport

You may find that your holiday doesn’t go quite as planned and it’s not even your fault! Maybe the hotel has double booked or the airline hasn’t given you the extra leg room you paid for. If this does happen, remember you have rights. Here are some tips for if disasters do happen..

  • Before you even set off, you may realise that you have taken out the most expensive insurance by mistake. If this does happen, you can, by law, cancel. You will have 14 days to do this and all should go smoothly if you haven’t already travelled or made a claim.
  • One of the worst things to happen on your holiday is the plane being delayed. If your flight has been delayed that much that you have missed check in for your hotel, or that it no longer serves it’s purpose, you can claim a refund.
  • If you get to your hotel and you are not entirely satisfied, make sure that you report this to your rep. Your rep should be able to sort something out for you, be it a change of room or possibly even a different hotel entirely.

Hopefully your holiday will run smoothly but if it doesn’t, keep these useful tips in mind.

Mexico! Arriba! Arriba!

A number of my friends have visited Mexico and have said that it was one of the best holidays they have ever been on. The weather is amazing and the food and nightlife are apparently just as good.

Mexico

A lot of the hotels in Mexico are all inclusive and it’s obvious why people decide to go for this option. With ice cold beer and scrumptious food on tap, who wouldn’t?

If you have the energy to drag yourself off the sun bed on your private beach after a night of drinking and dancing, then explore the two beautiful coastlines that Mexico has to offer. The white sands and palm trees will remind you of how beautiful it really is.

Cancun is a popular place with it’s mass of bars, restaurants and hotels and is definitely a must for those of you who enjoy the beach and water sports. Cancun also has a large number of shops so that us ladies can get our fix whilst we are away, make sure you haggle for that bottle of Tequila though!!

Have you been to Mexico before? If  so, where did you stay?

If the sun doesn’t shine, get your money back!

Imagine getting your money back from your holiday provider if you don’t get any sun on your holiday break? Well, a company in France has decided to do just this!

If you can prove that you got rain for at least 4 days of your holiday then you will be given a ’significant refund’. This is  a pretty good insurance policy for those who are looking to get away from the hideous weather here in the UK.

Rain

The company using this scheme is Aon, a French insurance company. This scheme has boosted the sale of holidays abroad and if it works, agents in the UK and other countries will no doubt take it on too.

A spokesman from the Tourist Office in Nice has said:

‘If a destination is offering itself as a place for a sunshine break, then there is probably no reason why someone should not pay up if it rains every day. The policy sounds like an excellent idea.’

Do you think the money back scheme is a good idea?
